Tlatlana di Lesedi Kgadisa

Botswana

Tlatlana is a basket used in Botswana and most parts of Africa. It is made of reed of different colours. The main colour is always supported by different parttens of different colours to enhance its beauty.

A tlatlana is used to hold fruits and seeds and sometimes it is used for decor. I was inspired by it because a mat is used to keep important things or even decor. The patterns on the design show a flat tlatlana.

Sulla Lesedi Kgadisa

I am Lesedi Kgadisa. My vision is to close the gap between our generation and the generation of our grandparents. I see this gap as a cause for many problems worldwide. Bridging the gap will allow us as young people to learn from our elders the principles that can mold us into better societies. However, not only do we need to learn from old people only. They also need to learn from us. The world is always changing and we need to change with it.

I incorporate cultural elements onto my designs to appeal to the elder generation of our societies whilst adding a modern touch or to them. In short the best of both worlds.
